VM: Not just for clothes

I was about to put the poor thing out of its misery. We can't afford the FOUR FIGURE reupholstery bill, and this thing had gone too too far. Then husband said "why don't you do conscious mending on the chair?" (I guess he'd been half listening.) So I thought, sure, it doesn't need to be proper reuphostery, I can visible (VISIBLE) mend it. Right, Doris? Doris being one of the culprits, seen here modeling the underlayer. 

I'd just scored a pile of gorgeous 1950s upholstery samples, perfect for that foundation. I used stuffing from an old cushion, the trusty staplegun, and some superstrong linen thread from 1910 (unnecessary detail). 

I dug in the vaults for these contrasting belts, handwoven in... Greece and Kenya? Some more staples at the ends and a lot of handstitching with a curved carpet needle in doubled black cotton thread. And there you go. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, killers.

I am a new follow. I noticed this was posted a few years ago so I am wondering what the status of the chair is now? I have two very beloved felines who have ravages a couple of chairs. I have hesitated to visible mend for fear they will just be shredded again. Now just draping some lovely and affordable drop cloths over them, but it’s not really the look I want.
